Closing the bank side of the marketplace — Ramani, Dar es Salaam.

Money moves badly in most industries. In much of the world, it barely moves at all.

A farmer sells a harvest and waits three weeks to be paid in cash. A shopkeeper can't restock because credit lives in a bank branch, not at the point of order. A rider is insured on paper and uninsured in practice because no one designed a claim she could actually make. A logistics firm moves goods across four borders and money across none of them.

These look like different problems. They're one problem wearing different clothes: the financial layer was designed for someone else.

I build that layer properly. Not as an app bolted onto a business, but as infrastructure designed around how a specific audience already earns, trusts, buys and repays.

Three layers. Always in this order.

  1. 01

    The Rail

    How the money actually moves.

I design the technology infrastructure for the transaction itself: payments in, credit out, disbursement, reconciliation, collection. Built for the constraints that are real — intermittent connectivity, cash-heavy last miles, thin credit files, four regulators with four opinions.

  2. 02

    The Model

Who pays, how much, and whether it still works at month 24.

A rail nobody can afford to run is a pilot, not a business. I build the unit economics, take rate, pricing and P&L that make the thing commercial — and I stress it against the month where subsidy ends and volume has to carry it.

  3. 03

The Mechanic where most products die

Why this specific person actually uses it.

The technology works; the adoption doesn't. So I design for the behaviour that already exists:

    • Cooperative rails for farmers, because the union is already the trusted counterparty.
    • Margin incentives for traders, because traders respond to economics, not messaging.
    • Inventory-embedded credit for SMEs, because the shopkeeper needs the loan at the moment of restock, not the moment of application.
    • Tagged stickers for insurance, because a policy nobody can find is a policy nobody claims.

Same principle every time: meet the money where the person already is.

Sectors

The pattern holds wherever value changes hands and the financial layer wasn't designed for the people using it.

Different industries. Same question: how does money get to the person who needs it, at the moment they need it, at a cost that works for everyone in the chain?

For global organisations entering new markets

I'm the commercial strategist you bring in when the market is unfamiliar and the financial layer has to be built, not bought.

Market understanding

I size the opportunity with primary research, not desk estimates. TAM, SAM and SOM with assumptions I'll defend, plus the regulatory and licensing map that determines whether any of it is legal.

Network

Banks, microfinance institutions, telcos, regulators, distributors and multinational brands. I've closed partnerships with Stanbic Bank, TCB and 64 brands including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Diageo, Dangote Cement and Oryx Energies. Warm routes in, not cold lists.

Technical product depth

I speak specification, not slideware. I've translated field research into product requirements engineers built against, and I know where credit logic breaks against how businesses actually trade.

Audience and persona precision

Financial products succeed or fail on segment definition. I profile the audience properly, which is what makes TAM real and GTM executable rather than aspirational.

What I've built

Ramani team at a domestic trade partnership event in Tanzania

Ramani Y Combinator

Head of Strategy & Partnerships

I built Tanzania's first financial marketplace from concept to launch with Stanbic Bank, TCB and microfinance partners — inventory-embedded credit for FMCG distributors. I structured $60M+ in financing across 100+ distributors and 60+ brands, closed 64 brand partnerships, and co-led a $32M Series A. The loan book reached $250M in twelve months because origination, underwriting, monitoring and collections were automated rather than staffed.

SparkCraft — market intelligence and advisory

SparkCraft

Founder & General Manager

I founded SparkCraft to do market intelligence, entry strategy and regulatory navigation properly. Our first engagement took an international iGaming brand into five markets in a single launch window — Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Ethiopia — covering market sizing, regulatory mapping, channel strategy and operational launch in each.

The Ramani leadership team on stage in Dar es Salaam

Ramani — the team that took Tanzania's first financial marketplace from concept to a $250M loan book.

Tell me where the money isn't moving.

The conversations I'm most useful in start with something specific — a market you're entering, an audience you can't reach profitably, a credit or payments product that won't scale, a model that has to hold up in front of investors.

No pitch deck required. 30 minutes.

I'm open to Country Manager and Director roles where the mandate involves scaling a market or building financial technology into it — and to advisory engagements with organisations entering unfamiliar markets.
